The Intrusion Probe from Madge is a world first. The standalone Probe silently scans all 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth networks within range to intelligently determine whether any unauthorised access attempts are being made on the wired LAN to which it is attached. The Probe scans its airspace for wireless devices and determines whether they belong to its network, neighbouring networks or whether they are rogue devices that could pose a security risk. The Probe continuously scans all network transmissions to check that they are securely encrypted and that there is no direct and potentially insecure ad-hoc communication between wireless clients. The Probe logs all network activity and intelligently uses filtering and attack-profile techniques to analyse what it 'sees;' if the Probe discovers network activity that could be malicious then it will generate an alert. The Probe works as a standalone device that connects into the wired LAN and can be powered by 'Power-over-Ethernet.' It has a web browser based interface which makes it simple to configure and empowers firms to reliably monitor all wireless activity on the network and enforce existing wireless usage policy. If multiple Probes are required by an organisation to cover its airspace then the Madge Probe Monitor offers a central management point where data from all Probes is collected and analysed.
